Our Story
The nuts ’n’ oils Organic Shea Butter
Hand-harvested from ancient shea trees in Lira District, Northern Uganda
Since the late 1980s, Northern Uganda suffered under the violent insurgency of the Lord’s Resistance Army (LRA), led by Joseph Kony. For over two decades, villages were burned, families torn apart, and tens of thousands of children abducted.
Nearly two million people were forced into IDP camps. When peace returned in 2006, survivors came home to destroyed homes and centuries-old shea trees cut down for firewood.
From those ashes, hope has risen.
Women in Lira proudly continuing the tradition
Today — Hope Restored
Thanks to training and advocacy led by Mr. Surjit Singh, over 2,000 independent farmers have revived this ancient tradition. Cutting shea trees is now illegal — protecting both the environment and a proud heritage.
